"Life more than meat"

FANNY DE GROOT HASTINGS

"Butter and honey shall he eat"—
But none wrote that for forty days,
While men sit in the scorners seat.
Alone he fasts, alone he prays.

"Butter and honey shall he eat"—
But none foretold the bitter gall.
The cup of wine, the broken meat.
The few small loaves enough for all.
