Words Are Little Windows

"Oh , let's stay here," said Kate. "Let's, Janet!" Kate skipped happily across the clearing to stop at the edge of the brook. How bright it was, scampering noisily over its shining pebbles!

"Mother told us to come home early, you know," Janet reminded her sister. "Don't forget that you have homework to do!"

For a minute Kate didn't answer. She was just seeing and feeling and being glad for the shining brook and the playful breeze and the sweet smell of the woods. But then suddenly she remembered what her homework was, and the smile left her face. "Oh, Janet," she exclaimed, "I have to write a whole paragraph about what I am doing this Saturday afternoon."
