The Retrospect

Collingswood, New Jersey (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Collingswood, dedicated its edifice at 893 Haddon Avenue on Sunday, September 30, 1945, at morning and afternoon services.

The usual Sunday service was held, and in addition the First Reader read a brief history of the church, as follows:

"The first concerted effort to organize a Christian Science church in Collingswood was made on December 9, 1930, when several students of Christian Science met in a private home and pledged their loyalty to support such a church. Subsequent meetings were held, and on Sunday, February 1, 1931, the first church service was held in the American Legion Post Hall at 610 Atlantic Avenue. Sunday school services were held at the same hour in the same building.

"A Reading Room was opened on February 11, 1931. In January, 1936, the present building was purchased. It was remodeled, and was ready for services on Wednesday evening, April 1, 1936.

"It is with gratitude to God that the members of this church dedicate this building to His service and to the Cause of Christian Science."

Christian Science churches stand as witnesses to the healing power of Christ Truth.
