"In God I will praise his word,...

"In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust." These words from Psalms (56:4) well express my feelings. It is difficult to know where to begin a recital of the numerous blessings I have received from studying Christian Science, but perhaps some of the experiences I had overseas will prove helpful.

While on my way to the front as a re-enforcement infantry officer, I found that considerable worry was expressed by my fellow lieutenants as to how they would conduct themselves the first time they led troops under enemy fire. All of them expressed the thought that they would undoubtedly be terribly frightened, but hoped they would be able to conceal their feelings. Realizing that I should do some mental work to protect myself from the suggestion that everyone is necessarily afraid the first time he is in combat, I turned for help to a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel which I had in my possession, and read the following statement: "How priceless to know that Love goes with all those defending the true way of living, that Love accompanies their every step, protecting them from fear and from the hatred of mortal mind!"

The words "protecting them from fear" made me see clearly that here was my answer, that if I were fully conscious of God's presence and His love, there would be nothing to fear. A short time later I joined my company, and on the very first day was called upon to lead a platoon in an attack upon the Siegfried Line. Our mission was accomplished. We broke through without the loss of a single man, and I can truthfully state that I did not experience the slightest fear during the engagement.
