"I will not let thee go"

Sometimes we hear students of Christian Science say, "I wish I could give a testimony; I have so much for which to be grateful." Then why do they not arise and express their gratitude at our Wednesday testimony meetings? Is it not because they believe themselves to be filled with fear? Fear belongs, however, to no man. It is not an entity. It is a state of mortal mind which finds expression only through those who accept it by thinking in terms of "my fear."

A study of Jacob's experience as related in the thirty-second and thirty-third chapters of Genesis discloses several points applicable to the arguments that would deprive one of the blessing derived from voicing gratitude for individual proof of the ever-operative law divine Love.

We read that Jacob, at the prospect of again seeing his brother Esau, whom he had defrauded of birthright, "was greatly afraid and distressed." The first step he took in working out his problem was to pray earnestly to God for deliverance. This was followed by a desire to give; and he gave Esau generously of his herds and flocks. The desire to give or share is an effective help in working out any problem. Surely the desire to give a testimony to the healing power of Christian Science at a Wednesday testimony meeting is a right desire that is blessed of our Father.
