Christian Science and the Sunday School

Every student of Christian Science has the opportunity and is in fact daily faced with the necessity of practicing its teachings. Pupils enrolled in the branch church Sunday schools of the Church of Christ, Scientist, find that they too need to apply their understanding to everyday affairs. Regardless of one's particular situation or surroundings, he must think scientifically concerning God and man, if he would have successful and harmonious daily activities.

The pupil may ask: How well do I understand God's nature and my relationship to Him? How can I gain a deeper understanding of God and His creation? How shall I maintain satisfactory and happy associations with my teachers and others? The answers to all these questions are to be found in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Like mathematics, Christian Science is demonstrable, and one may prove what he understands of this Science.

Many centuries ago the prophet Isaiah expressed his thought of God in these words (Isa. 46:9): "I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me." On page 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" the author of our textbook, Mrs. Eddy, has given us the following helpful definition of Deity: "God. The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." This definition is the key which unlocks the spiritual meaning of Isaiah's revelation of God's allness.
