Trials Are Opportunities

Does anyone think that opportunity has passed him by? Then let such a one take heart, for today Christian Science is revealing that every trial, every problem, affords a glorious opportunity to prove its teachings. The mathematician takes pleasure in utilizing his knowledge of mathematics. So we can rejoice when human problems confront us, not over the problems, but that in solving them we can prove man's infinite capabilities as a son of God.

Should one think his understanding of Christian Science too small to be of much use, he may be assured that by using the little he knows it will grow. Truth is so omnipotent that he may even be surprised at how gloriously the slightest effort to overcome evil is rewarded. Every time error is denied reality and the ever-presence of God, good, is acknowledged, progress is made. As we continue to replace evil suggestions with that which is good and true, the certainty of the ever-presence of good will finally abide with us without conscious effort on our part. And thus we prove what our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger."

No one has ever met a claim of error successfully by considering it a powerful reality or by grieving over it. Error is always a lying supposition that there is a power apart from God. How much more quickly does error dissolve into nothingness when it is seen for the illusion it is! Error is always deceptive, a vagary of the material senses which God knows nothing about; and since God does not know it, neither does His reflection, man. Error cannot resist Truth's power to destroy it any more than a mistake in mathematics can resist the truth which corrects it.
