Six years ago, through the reading of an article in the Christian Science Sentinel, I was instantaneously healed of the desire to smoke. This healing was effortless and came with the realization that matter cannot give man poise.

I shall always be grateful for the truth voiced by a Christian Scientist at a time when I was very fearful and in a distressing physical condition. After a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, I purchased some Christian Science literature and walked away, leaving my change. The woman in charge said, "Oh, you must take what is coming to you." I stood very still and thought of all I had coming to me as a child of God: all good, health, harmony, joy, protection, and dominion. Within a few minutes I was introduced to a practitioner who patiently helped me claim the inheritance of which Mary Baker Eddy speaks on page 307 of "Miscellaneous Writings": "What a glorious inheritance is given to us through the understanding of omnipresent Love! More we cannot ask: more we do not want: more we cannot have. This sweet assurance is the 'Peace, be still' to all human fears, to suffering of every sort."

During a rehearsal one afternoon before a recording engagement, I was unable to speak above a whisper. Had I given in to the temptation to believe I should have to cancel the engagement, it would have meant a great loss of time and money to the sponsor. I called a practitioner for a Christian Science treatment. The following morning I was able to sing, and made several recordings.
