During my early childhood, my...
During my early childhood, my mother was healed in Christian Science of a so-called incurable disease. Thus, the blessings received from our study of this religion have been many, and they have extended over a long period of years.
When I was beginning as a teacher in the public schools of a large city, I had very serious trouble with my eyes. My parents were away, and the relative who was caring for me was not especially interested in Christian Science, but reminded me that I was neglecting my study and attendance at church services. Finally, I was advised to go to an eye specialist. Several kinds of treatment followed, and a number of pairs of glasses were prescribed. The last pair were of a special glass, but seemed to be worthless. When I complained, the doctor told me that he was giving me glasses that would make it safe for me to get around. He said that my "close vision" was practically gone, and that in a very short time all vision would be destroyed.
From his office I went directly to that of a Christian Science practitioner. He talked to me for a few minutes, making me realize that glasses had nothing to offer me. I took them off and never put them on again. Gradually, as the treatments continued, sight returned. Soon, I was able to read. Later, fine sewing was easily and naturally accomplished. That was many years ago. Recently, I was required to take an eye test and was told that my "close vision" was above normal.
