Christian Science was brought to our family through the wife of a business associate of my husband's. She had heard of my illness and offered Christian Science to us. My husband went to a Reading Room in a near-by city and purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which he brought to me.

At that time, when there seemed nowhere else to turn, I had not much hope that it could help me, because during the space of five or six years I had suffered from nervous breakdowns, which became increasingly severe each winter. One physician after another had vainly tried to help, and my husband, mother, and sisters were about ready to send me away. My family of five children were left entirely to the care of others, for I could do nothing for them; the mental suffering was such as only those who have experienced that particular form of error can understand.

Occasionally I read a few paragraphs in Science and Health. It attracted me, and I vaguely felt that there was help for me in it. Also I attended a church service once in a while. Finally, I called upon a Christian Science practitioner. She has since told me that during the first visit I sat in her office without saying a word.
