From childhood I suffered from intense nervous headaches and stomach trouble, which caused me to eat only certain kinds of food at times, and then to suffer from what I had eaten. All material remedies were tried, from treatment by a specialist on nerve diseases to patent remedies. Many physicians, too, did everything they knew for me to no avail. I appreciate their kind efforts and give due respect to them, but I grew continually worse until I was finally taken to a sanitarium for nervous patients.

While I was there, another patient gave me a copy of the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation as given on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This copy had been sent to the patient by her mother in California, who was a Christian Scientist. I studied this prayer with its spiritual interpretation every day. Although I grasped only a little of its full healing power, before many weeks passed I was so much improved that I was allowed to go home. The physicians at the hospital said that they could not account for my recovery, for they and the nurses had held no hope of my ever being restored to my family, since the difficulty had been diagnosed as a hereditary nerve disease which they deemed incurable. But I returned to my home and family, and am now in full possession of my health and reason.

A year or so after returning home, and while yet far from well, I was advised by a friend to get Science and Health, which I did. I also had Science treatment, and was healed of the stomach trouble and much nervousness.
