Official Organs of The Mother Church

An earnest student of Christian Science who was faced with the problem of finding a new location in which to live, was making no headway. She had applied the teachings of this Science, yet at every turn she seemed to be stopped. One day, when she was yielding to rather discouraging thoughts, her gaze fell on a copy of The Christian Science Journal. She noticed in particular the words "Official organ of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts."

A desire possessed her to see just what was meant by the word "organ" in connection with our periodicals. She longed to know what our beloved Leader and the Founder of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, wanted us to understand when she designated this important periodical as "official organ."

Turning to Webster's dictionary, she found this enlightening description: "Organ: a medium by which an important action is performed or end accomplished." As she applied this new concept to her love for and appreciation of the periodicals and the writings of Mrs. Eddy, her thought was gradually cleared of the mental debris that was keeping her from seeing her true place in Mind, God.
