The Melrose Leader

Melrose, Massachusetts (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Melrose, held dedicatory services on May 13, 1945, in the church edifice on Green Street, at Lynn Fells Parkway. A morning and an evening service were held, at each of which a brief historical outline of the growth of the church was presented by the First Reader.

The Melrose church was incorporated in August, 1914, as a branch of The Mother Church. The first service of this church was held in Hawthorne Hall, Eastman Building, on September 6, 1914. In November, Eastman Hall was used for the church services and Hawthorne Hall for the Sunday school. A Reading Room had been opened in September. Memorial Hall was used for Sunday services from June, 1919, to March, 1924, after which the Masonic Temple was used until the church edifice was finished.
