I am very grateful to testify...
I am very grateful to testify that Christian Science does heal. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was brought to our home in 1912 by a relative, who lovingly told us that if we would read it we would find comfort and would be healed of our grief over the passing of two loved ones.
After a few months of diligent study, the test of the healing efficacy of Christian Science came, and my husband and I both took our stand for God. We were awakened one night by our son, then six years old. He was struggling for breath, and manifesting the symptoms of a severe attack of croup. We had long been earnest students of the Bible, but never before had we relied on God for healing. Now we needed to make an immediate decision, so we turned absolutely to Christian Science, repeating "the scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of Science and Health, also the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation on pages 16 and 17. We became so engrossed in trying to understand their meaning that we forgot the child, and when in half an hour our thought returned to him, we found that he was sleeping peacefully and breathing normally. He was healed, and the healing was permanent.
We have since learned that it was not the repetition of the words from Science and Health alone that accomplished the healing, but our radical reliance on God and the truth of the statements we were reading.
