See Daniel Stand!

Must I too, not turn and face the lions
As Daniel does?
Must not you, my friend, and all who would be free,
Remember Daniel?
All through the world the cry rings: Turn again,
Turn now and face
The foe—the jealousy, the hate, the greed—
Face these with courage and the simple creed
That Daniel knows.
Only the consciousness that Love now reigns
Can rise to meet the angry fears and pains.
Oh, see how Daniel turns, alight with love,
To face the beasts,
Who cannot strike against such perfect love.
Oh, see him stand, and see the beasts recoil and shrink
Away from him who knows the power to think
The thoughts of God the holy thoughts of calm.
See Daniel stand!
Then see him turn again, safe from all harm;
Oh, see him face the light and praise his God!
Oh, see him stand in quietness serene
The while the beasts grow quiet, gentle, kind,
And all the evil dies and love is seen
Triumphant, grand!
See Daniel stand!
