In "Retrospection and Introspection"...

In "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 58). Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder, of Christian Science, says, "Stating the divine Principle, omnipotence (omnis potens), and then departing from this statement and taking the rule of finite matter, with which to work out the problem of infinity or Spirit,—all this is like trying to compensate for the absence of omnipotence by a physical, false, and finite substitute."

When I have adhered to "the divine Principle, omnipotence," with single purpose, demonstration has evidenced itself to me many times in proof of the healing power of Christian Science. Some of these healings have been instantaneous as was the case with a severely sprained ankle. The accident occurred hardly ten minutes before dinnertime, at which meal it was necessary for me to be present to help with a decision on our next day's program of work. The affirmation of Truth and the denial of any ability of mortal mind to confuse or obstruct were made with evident authority, for I walked to the mess tent, took my accustomed place on time, and the following day made a thirty-mile trip on horseback.

I am indeed grateful for the protection enjoyed by me and by my family during the past five years, when seemingly difficult economic problems have presented themselves for healing. "The rule of finite matter" has obtruded often to delay the healing process, but it has had grand compensations from necessary and consistent study of Mrs. Eddy's writings. I have learned to appreciate to the full the magnitude of our Leader's discovery.
