Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Redding, California (First Church).

The new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Redding, was dedicated on October 3, 1943, at morning and afternoon services.

Christian Science was brought to Redding in 1900. Services were held either in halls or in private homes for several years.

In 1911, Christian Science Society. Redding, was organized, and in 1912 a room for services rented in the Moody Building, adjoining the Temple Hotel, on Market Street. This room was used until 1921. when the lots on which the new edifice stands were purchased. A small building on the property was enlarged and used until it had to be removed to make room for the new building in August, 1934, The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ. Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, accepted the local Christian Science Society as First Church of Christ. Scientist. Redding.

Work on the new church edifice was started on September 3, 1941. The cornerstone was laid on September 29, 1941. and the building was opened for services on February 22. 1942.
