I was drawn to Christian Science...

I was drawn to Christian Science nine years ago, while living in Shanghai. Newly married. I had just witnessed my husband's healing of acute dysentery, a healing that had long been despaired of by physicians. My approach to this Science was halfhearted at first, but study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly soon helped me to overcome cigarette smoking. For fourteen years this had been an inveterate habit, until I found myself longing for some way to be free of it. This healing has been permanent, as has that of a lung weakness, cocktail drinking, and a fear of living alone. A wonderful day of freedom dawned for me when the illusory nature of these conditions was understood, and they were met and overcome.

During the blitz period in London it was necessary for me to be evacuated from the city with our little boy of five. Within six hours of our decision to leave, a home was given to us by a Christian Scientist living three hundred miles away. For the metaphysical progress experienced while in her home I am most grateful.

The blessing of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church is always present, and I am indeed thankful to God for this wonderful truth, which Mrs. Eddy discovered and gave to mankind for the benefit of all. In true humility I offer this as a testimony of the ever-present help and comfort received when one turns completely to God for guidance and protection.—(Mrs.) Violet Margaret Patton, Edinburgh, Scotland.
