"Trust the Eternal" is the counsel...

"Trust the Eternal" is the counsel of Hymn No. 359 in the Christian Science Hymnal. That this is a practical rule for daily living was proved to me the day after my arrival at a United States Army camp during World War I. That day I went with about fifty other men for physical examination, vaccination, and inoculation.

I was beset with suggestions that ill effects would result from the vaccination and inoculation. As I waited for my name to be called I turned for help to the truths I had learned in Christian Science. I realized that if I trusted God I should have no fear and there would be no ill effects from that which I was to undergo.

I was vaccinated and inoculated, and went outside the building, where I had to wait until all the men had received the same treatment. I slowly walked up and down to avoid conversation and to assure myself uninterrupted opportunity to continue my efforts to "trust the Eternal." Without warning, my sight totally left me my hearing became impaired, and I almost fell to the ground.
