The West Virginian.

Fairmont, West Virginia (First Church).

A dedication service for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fairmont, was held on Sunday, October 3, 1943, in the church edifice, twenty-two years after the society was founded.

In August, 1921, Christian Science Society, Fairmont, was organized by a group of active students, and in April, 1922, it was officially accepted as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. Services have been held regularly since then, first in the Masonic Temple, then in the Odd Fellows Building, and later in the Christ Episcopal Church on Washington Street.

In 1936, the organization purchased the property on Fairmont Avenue, and converted it into a church building, where it has continued to hold services since November of that year. The society was reorganized as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fairmont, on September 3, 1942. Contributions of the members and a grant from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy have made it possible to meet the indebtedness against the church property,— The West Virginian.
