Spiritual Protection

The study of Christian Science, by revealing the nature of God, man, and the universe, enables the student to meet and conquer each untoward circumstance as it arises.

In the midst of modern warfare, with its dive bombers, huge tanks spreading liquid fire, and numerous engines of destruction, the Christian Scientist must face the seeming threat to his life and limb as the prophets and apostles met their tests. The same truth that enabled them to come through their experiences untouched is available to the Christian warrior of today. He learns that protection is dependent on his spiritual understanding, rather than upon his reliance on material means.

The science of material warfare teaches that safety depends on such means as, for example, the use of natural land configuration for cover, the employment of camouflage, or the use of the protecting barrage. These methods are recognized to be only partially effective, and the element of chance enters into every pattern of military service. The common use of the term "expendables" in military discussions is in itself an admission that certain men and materials are likely to be sacrificed in every engagement.
