The Commandments: Passports to Power

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

This is the last of a series of five articles on the Commandments, which have been appearing monthly in the Sentinel.

The ninth commandment introduces us into our place in society with these words: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour." Certainly a false witness is one who is not telling the truth about what he sees; or it may be that he is not seeing things as they are. It often happens that a group of people will witness a situation and no two will tell the same story. Each sees the same incident from his own standpoint. So, then, the standpoint from which we look at everything is of enormous practical importance to us. The higher we get, the more we can see. The clearer we get, the more things appear as they are. The highest standpoint is God, absolute Truth, invariable Love.

This being so, it must be understood that man, the expression of God, sees as God causes him to see. Everything he is, in substance and quality, is good, like God, and is radiating goodness. Isn't this the intent of Christ Jesus' demand that we love our neighbor as ourselves? We see him clearly as we see ourselves clearly. We see him as healthy, as loving, as happy, as complete as are we ourselves when seen through the lens of scientific truth.
