My introduction to Christian Science...
My introduction to Christian Science came to me twelve years ago through the remarkable healing of an elder sister. She had suffered long from nervous prostration, and, as related of the woman in the Bible, "had suffered many things of many physicians, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." While she was in a sanatorium (the third we had tried) we turned to Christian Science, having been persuaded to do so by a neighbor, who was not herself a Scientist. but had seen its healing power demonstrated.
The superintendent of the sanatorium warned us that to move my sister the necessary one hundred miles to the Christian Science home would surely cause her death. In less than three weeks, however, she was restored to health. To me and to others of the immediate family, unfamiliar with the Science of mental healing, it indeed seemed a miracle.
At that time I was serving as superintendent of a Sunday school in an orthodox church, but withdrew and, with my family, began attending the Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings of a Christian Science church. We were most favorably impressed with the quietness and evident sincerity of those in attendance at these meetings. Our two young daughters were enrolled in the Sunday school, and loved it from the very beginning. I can never be grateful enough for the beautiful and impersonal training they received, and the good they have realized from their regular attendance at the Christian Science Sunday School.
