Serenity
"Let
not your heart be troubled." Jesus' words,
Though gently said far off and long ago.
Are louder than the tortured drums of war,
More constant than the fretting round of toil,
And nearer than the self beset by fears.
When we shall listen to his kind command
With all our hearts, the jarring evidence
Of strife and stress and sense will be annulled
By boundless courage, calm and steadfast joy.
Thus do we reach our haven—undisturbed.
