In an article which appeared in a recent issue, the writer inquires: "Will any Christian Scientist swallow ten grains of strychnine?"

Christ Jesus said of those who believed in him, "They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them." And Christian Scientists believe profoundly that he meant what he said. They would not, however, deliberately swallow poison in order to prove this true, just as Jesus refused to throw himself from the pinnacle of the temple in order to prove the truth of the Scriptural statement, "He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up." He replied to this suggestion of evil by quoting the Scriptural command, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

There have been many instances of the healing experienced by Christian Scientists, through the application of Christian Science, when poison has been inadvertently taken.
