Christian Science was presented...
Christian Science was presented to me ten years before I looked into it. Going through a period of great grief and fear, my husband and I put away all human creeds and hungrily looked for a God of love, and for something that would explain the contradictions of a loving God and a world of sin, sickness, and woe. I am so grateful that we never doubted that God could be anything but loving.
My husband had been a chronic sufferer for years from a stomach difficulty, and we finally asked a Christian Science practitioner to help him. He became so interested in the explanation of the unreality of matter, which Christian Science teacher, that he was healed very quickly without realizing it until the practitioner asked why he was continuing to come. Of course we bought the books and began the study of this wonderful truth.
Again and again I have been grateful for the comfort and assurance I have found in Mrs. Eddy's prayer for the "Big Children," which is found in "Miscellaneous Writings" on page 400:
"Father-Mother good, lovingly
Thee I seek,—
Patient, meek,
In the way Thou hast,—
Be it slow or fast,
Up to Thee."
There was great opposition in the home, but the years have seen prejudice and grief melt away, and the healing of a most difficult case of inflammatory rheumatism was one of the results. This dear one also began the study of Christian Science. Some years of joy and comfort and freedom were accorded another member of the family. After many years a third one asked for Christian Science treatment and was healed of lumbago. This one had fought against what he thought was Christian Science year after year, so his acceptance and acknowledgment were very beautiful.
For myself, the healing of grief over losing a friendship was also the healing of an unnamed physical difficulty. The healing of resentment on my part brought about the most beautiful and right relationship between a relative and myself. I have been healed of grief, which was caused by the passing of dear ones.
Christian Science is helping me day by day to turn from the belief of a man who is weak, sinful, selfish, self-centered, self-deprectiating, lacking in ability, sick and dying, to the real man of God's creating, and I cannot be grateful enough for the final revelation of Truth, which is given in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and for the exemplification given us by our dear Leader in her life. The literature is always meeting some need, given encouragement, and being of inestimable value. My gratitude is deep. For those who have patiently and lovingly helped me along the way, my heart continuously gives thanks, and I would give like service to my fellow man.—(Mrs.) Emma M. Collins, Pasadena, California.
