It is with a deep sense of gratitude...
It is with a deep sense of gratitude for the healing and redemptive powers of Christian Science that I offer this testimony. I am particularly grateful for my healing of the tobacco habit, which had enslaved me for about fifteen years. Ever since I began the study of Christian Science I had desired to be free from this habit, but it was not until I was thinking of joining a branch church that, having made the statement that I expected to quit smoking very soon, the question presented itself, Why are you waiting? From that time forth I have not smoked, and although the desire for tobacco persisted for some time, I finally overcame it, with the help of another student of this Science, and I was free.
Through the study and application of Christian Science I was able to make what proved to be a very satisfactory business connection at a time when the so-called depression seemed most severe. The position which was offered me was a minor one and included a very small salary, but through the months of unemployment which had preceded this offer, such a sense of humility and gratitude had been developed in me that I was able to accept it in a spirit of thankfulness that I could be of service to someone else. The business has grown and prospered to an extent that could not have been foreseen and has proved a blessing to others as well as myself. This experience is a definite proof to me that when we permit divine Mind to guide us we always find that which is good and needful and right.
In our home, we have had many instances of healing of sickness and disease, and also of protection from these ills, and I am sincerely grateful. I wish, too, to express my gratitude for the loving help of the practitioner who aided me through the business experience, for class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for Mary Baker Eddy, whose revelation has blessed and benefited the world.—Virgil H. Schenck, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
