True Freedom

Christian Scientists are indeed grateful to their Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." They are grateful to her because they know that through this great truth a higher, clearer, and larger understanding of God is gained, and that a careful study and application of Christian Science will strengthen their faith in God and equip them with understanding to meet their every need.

Mrs. Eddy was fully aware of the human need for a better understanding of God, divine Principle, by which could be worked out in a simple, practical way all the problems of everyday experience. She dedicated her life to the alleviating of pain and suffering of every sort. She was well equipped for her task. Years of study and prayer, and her own healing through spiritual illumination from the serious effects of an accident, enabled her to understand the mighty works of the Master, Christ Jesus. She saw plainly that it was the Christ, Truth, which he exemplified in his teaching and works. And she proved true her discovery by healing the sick and sinful who came to her for help. Having followed the Master's example thus far, she also found that she could impart this knowledge and understanding to others.

For three years after her discovery Mrs. Eddy devoted herself to prayerful, self-sacrificing, consecrated searching of the Scriptures, and as she listened to divinely inspiring direction, she wrote her textbook. It is small wonder that her followers are deeply grateful to their Leader for all that she has done for mankind. If anyone will read her writings and earnestly adhere to their teachings, he will be enabled to accomplish, in small beginnings perhaps, many beautiful healings, and as he continues this study and progresses in spiritual understanding, he will find his problems more quickly solved.
