Comfort

"Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved."—John 13:23.

"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."—Science And Health With Key To The Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, Preface, page vii.

In doubt they shared the supper of their Lord,
Troubled despite the solace of the Word;
Yet there was one whose thought retained its rest,
And now he leaned upon the Master's breast.
Ah! What a peace was his, what bliss divine!
What inward comfort none could undermine!
For, with the sure unfoldment of the truth,
John the beloved emerged from John the youth.

So, when the flowered pathways of our life
Yield to the wilderness of mortal strife,
Still let us keep the one eternal tryst
Where, as of old, we taste the peace of Christ,
And let our hearts be not oppressed by fear!
Ever shall comfort bless the meek who bear
The Christly yoke, who live secure and free
Because they lean on Love's infinity.
