The fine testimonies in the...

The fine testimonies in the pamphlet "Proofs of God's Protection" remind me that, although I have not been in combat, I have many reasons to be grateful for a knowledge of Christian Science during more than a year in the service.

I was somewhat apprehensive about being drafted, for I felt that army life would be a debasing and stagnating experience. I went to a Christian Science practitioner, and he pointed out to me the passage in Science and Health where Mrs. Eddy says (p. 135), "Spiritual evolution alone is worthy of the exercise of divine power." He told me that if I were put in the service, it would be an opportunity for spiritual growth. I must admit that I was only half-hearted in my agreement, but I have found, as I should have known all along, that it is absolutely true. I have grown more in Science in the past year than I had done in many years previously.

An application of what I know of Truth has constantly smoothed my path in the army, taking me from the regular routine and putting me in special work along the lines of my training and interests. It is doing the same for others, for most of the students of Christian Science one meets are serving in some constructive capacity. I have also experienced several physical healings, and have seen other soldiers, some of them with no previous acquaintance with Science, experience them also. In at least two cases I have seen men use their knowledge of God's law to meet successfully trying problems of relations with superiors.
