The telegram published by you...

[Guy Haldane Dempster, Committee on Publication for Egypt, in the Egyptian Gazette, Cairo]

The telegram published by you recently under the heading "Britain and U.S.A. Outright Union Urged," gave as its source of information the "Boston Monitor." This evidently refers to The Christian Science Monitor, an international newspaper, which has frankly maintained its full title since its foundation thirty-four years ago by Mary Baker Eddy. It has consistently supported the cause of true democracy and has thus proved a powerful factor in influencing public opinion. It early recognized that this cause would best be served by Anglo-American co-operation. In fact as long ago as 1898 Mrs. Eddy wrote (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 338):

"Brave Britain, blest America!
Unite your battle-plan;
Victorious, all who live it,—
The love for God and man."

It will be seen that what she considered an essential requirement for realizing a victorious war and, even more important, a victorious peace, is in entire concord with the two great commandments named by Christ Jesus (Matt. 22: 37–39).
