"In the way of his steps"
The question of righteous government is one vital to the happiness and well-being of every person in the world today. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 222), "Mankind will be God-governed in proportion as God's government becomes apparent, the Golden Rule utilized, and the rights of man and the liberty of conscience held sacred."
The world is searching in many directions for a practical and provable solution of its problems, experimenting with divers courses of action, many of which fall short of success because, emanating from human will instead of divine Principle, God, they lack the acumen of divine wisdom. The attempt of mortal mind to govern men has culminated, in some instances, in a bewildering maze of human opinions, ingenuity, and invention; in unwieldy bureaucratic structures, top-heavy with partisanship, fear, greed, and dominative instinct, which would stifle individual initiative and obstruct individual spiritual development and progress.
What is one to do when he finds himself in such a situation? Become resentful and bitter, apathetic and despairing? No! A response to evil through the indulgence of these erroneous suggestions will not bring the solution. Christ Jesus, our Master, taught, "The kingdom of God is within you," that is, within the real man. It is evidenced in our divinely bestowed ability to turn naturally and unreservedly to Principle, God, and receive the spiritual understanding needed to cope with the situation at hand; to commune in prayer with the divine Mind, which governs absolutely the real, spiritual universe, thus overcoming the errors of mortal belief.
