In the heat of debate, men often say things which they do not really mean and make assertions which they later regret. I feel certain that such must have been the case recently, when one taking part in the controversy appearing currently in the columns of your excellent newspaper made reference to "the so-called Key to the Scriptures," and classified its author among "petty writers." He was referring to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the one who wrote it, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

From earliest childhood, Mrs. Eddy was devoutly religious. When twelve years old she was admitted into membership in the Congregational church, although she had the insight and courage, even at that age, to state that she was not wholly in sympathy with all its doctrines.
