There is no use in having one eye on Christian Science...
There is no use in having one eye on Christian Science and the other on an operation or a medicine chest. In order to be saved, one must let go of the wreck entirely, and put both hands on the lifeline. These remarks, made by one of our lecturers, were forcibly brought home to me some years ago, when I had a healing of paralysis of the bowels.
I had been in bondage to the taking of a nightly medicine for almost as long as I could remember. After coming into Christian Science I tried earnestly to secure my freedom, for I wished to obtain church membership. I had help from practitioners, but although I had other healings, it seemed as if this one was to be denied me, and I was greatly disappointed. I struggled along in this way for about seven years. At last the time came when all drugs lost their effect on me. I went desperately from one thing to another, until I had reached the end of material resources. Then I thought that I should be healed by Christian Science, or not at all. I went to another practitioner, who began to work for me. All thought of material means was cast out, and I had "both hands on the lifeline" at last. I received my healing after a period of fourteen days. Towards the end of this time I experienced a sense of great energy, combined with much peace and happiness. Spiritualized thought preceded my healing, and I saw that health is a spiritual condition, entirely independent of matter. This was clearly proved to me, because just at the time when, according to medical theories, I should have been feeling very ill indeed, I experienced a sense of health and well-being such as I could not remember ever having had before.
I am grateful for the testimonies that helped me during this time of trial, and I hope that my testimony will be the means of helping another struggler. I am grateful to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the revelation of Christian Science, and to the practitioner whose beautiful work brought about my healing. This healing took place about nine years ago and has been permanent.—(Mrs.) Muriel C. Cooke, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
