The whole world was changed for me when Christian Science...
The whole world was changed for me when Christian Science came into my life, about twenty years ago. The spirit of joy was born and has been with me continuously since then—the joy which comes from the realization that only the good is true and real. In one treatment I was healed of chilblains, which had recurred each year for about twelve years. Christian Science made it possible for me to go to high school and to have a year of college work after being out of school for eleven years. I held good positions in the business world until a few years ago, when I resigned my position. After that I was unemployed for about eight months. I tried to work this problem out myself, but finally called on a practitioner for help. A position was secured, and ample proofs of God's care are daily in evidence. Through the help of this practitioner I was also healed of a false concept of self. This healing opened up many doors for progress, for which I am very grateful.
Several months ago words from one of our hymns kept coming to me: "My grace, all sufficient," and, "I will still give thee aid." One Sunday evening I had gone to church with a friend. When I was about to take a streetcar to go home and was nearly across the street, I noticed an automobile coming towards me and just about three feet away. I felt absolutely no fear. The next thing I knew I was turning over in the street. I heard the driver say to a group of people, "It was her fault." I immediately knew that because accidents cannot happen in Mind, it was neither my fault nor the fault of anyone else. I had been so uplifted by right thinking during the church services and from doing church work that I could not feel cast down. I got up immediately. A gentleman asked me if I were hurt, and I answered, "No." I felt quite comfortable as I walked to get the streetcar which was coming. Truth occupied my thoughts continually. I reached home, knowing that because there had been no accident there could be no effect from something that had never occurred. I read the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy for a few minutes. As I moved about, several things seemed to be wrong. I breathed with difficulty and could not stand firmly. The suggestion came: "This is quite serious. Do you know enough to take care of this yourself?" Then the words from the hymn came again: "My grace, all sufficient, ... I will still give thee aid." I said to myself, "I do believe and trust God." I slept soundly, and went to work the next day as usual. Although a suggestion of error tried to claim my attention, after three days it all faded out of my thought.
I have the great privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and also of a branch church, and have had class instruction. I am grateful for Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
