In 1900, I first heard of Christian Science through Miss Clara Barton, who was a guest in my aunt's home, and told of many wonderful healings by Mrs. Eddy. She said, "She is the greatest woman of the age." Although very much impressed, I did not take up the study of Science until six years later. At this time our mother passed on, and I had to accept many new responsibilities.
During the following thirty-four years, Christian Science has met all my needs. I have been healed of stomach trouble, laryngitis, neuralgia, and rheumatism, by reading the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. The greatest blessing is the spiritual understanding which comes with every demonstration.
I am most thankful for a more recent healing of the fear of cancer. When this condition appeared over my left eye, I was alarmed and disturbed. As I continued my daily mental work, the irritation became worse. One day, when studying our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I came upon these sentences (p. 335): "Reality is spiritual, harmonious, immutable, immortal, divine, eternal. Nothing unspiritual can be real, harmonious, or eternal." While I prayed to understand these truths, it was revealed to me that I had held hatred in my thought toward my great grandfather. As I recalled the vivid impressions of the past, I was awakened to deny them, realizing that God is Father and Mother, and that good is the only power. Hatred dropped from me like an old garment, and the correct answer was gained. The physical manifestation disappeared some weeks later, and the healing has been permanent.
