Twelve years ago, while staying in a London hotel, I...

Twelve years ago, while staying in a London hotel, I picked up a copy of The Christian Science Journal, which had been left by a literature distribution worker for use in the lounge, and read a testimony which so greatly impressed me that when I returned home I got in touch with friends who I knew were Christian Scientists. At that time I was a member of an orthodox church, but I soon realized that Christian Science had something more deeply spiritual to offer.

My attention was directed to the statement on page 544 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, "All is under the control of the one Mind, even God;" and although I thought I had always known this, it was a revelation to study the subject in Science and Health. It was my small understanding of the government of Mind that made me decide to become a Christian Scientist, rather than any great desire for physical healing.

However, I was soon to learn that Truth makes one free, for I suddenly became aware, some months after attending a Christian Science lecture, of freedom from prostrating sick headaches, which had always attacked me whenever I smelled paint or petrol. With a wonderful sense of gratitude and joy that I shall always remember, I decided to prove this healing at once by doing varnishing and renovating in my home—to the utter astonishment of my husband and friends; and I have really enjoyed doing such work during the past eleven years.
