Christian Science Healing
Christian Science is teaching mankind the method of spiritual healing, and thus is establishing it in the world today. Spiritual healing has always been possible, since the divine Principle which supports it has ever been available; but since this Principle and the rules whereby it can be demonstrated have not always been known to men, it has, until the coming of Christian Science, not been scientifically made use of by them.
Christ Jesus healed all manner of inharmonious conditions through his understanding of God, divine Principle, and of the rules whereby Principle is made available. Sickness was readily healed by him; so was sin. Further, through his enlightened understanding he was able to set at naught the supposititious laws of matter, thus calming the winds and the waves, feeding the multitudes who followed him to listen to his word, and, finally, overcoming death, in this way proving the immortality of man. All the miracles, or marvels to human sense, which Jesus performed were accomplished through his knowledge of God's unchangeable spiritual law. On page 3 of "Rudimental Divine Science" Mrs. Eddy says, "Jesus' healing was spiritual in its nature, method, and design." But although his healings were based on spiritual understanding, the Master did not specifically make known the Science which underlay his demonstrations: it remained for Mary Baker Eddy to do this in Christian Science.
Spiritual healing did take place at intervals both before and after Christ Jesus' time; but it was spasmodic because its Science was not understood. Christian Science has entirely altered the situation, for it has elucidated divine Science in a manner which makes the understanding of it readily available to all. Anyone who will set aside prejudice, and in humility study the Christian Science textbook, will find himself in possession of the knowledge which enabled Christ Jesus to heal scientifically, knowledge which, in the degree he possesses it, will empower him to do likewise. Moreover, he will perceive that, in past generations, it was a measure of the same knowledge which enabled the spiritually-minded to accomplish the healings attributed to them.
