"Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. . . . Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." Having had the privilege of seeing these commands fulfilled to some degree in my case, I wish to give my testimony, to glorify God and to encourage those whose eyes are turned, as were mine, toward Christian Science, whence they await deliverance, but who nevertheless do not yet behold the full light.

For a third of a century I lived in atheism, which made me indifferent to distinctions of good and evil. Work, food, and material pleasures were my sole desires. During this period I walked in the paths "of the shadow of death," and mortal mind worked its will to the full.

On the advice of several specialists I had had a kidney operation, one which they felt necessary and without which, according to them, I could live but six months. A year later I again had to consult a doctor, who found liver trouble and articular rheumatism. He prescribed several remedies and a very strict diet, which I followed for two years without experiencing the least improvement. Then my sister advised me to go to a country some hundreds of miles away to consult a woman who claimed to heal by prayer. This woman prescribed some decoctions and a rubbing cream. At the end of two months of this treatment I could no longer stand.
