Patience

If we would calm the eager restlessness,
The fretful striving of the human mind,
We need a self-surrender more complete,
A wisdom more unerring: we must learn
That high resolve persistently maintained
Alone can bring the perfect poise we seek.
For patience is no meek submissiveness,
No hopeless resignation to the blows
Of undeserved affliction, but the strength
Of purpose that can watch untiringly
Throughout the night of error, and await
The certainty of Truth's triumphant dawn.
