Dominion

"AND God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion." Buffeted by circumstances over which they seem to have no control, many people would be glad to avail themselves of such God-given power if they but knew how this could be accomplished.

To possess and to exercise God-bestowed dominion is as possible today as it was in the beginning; for God is Mind, as we learn in Christian Science, and confers dominion upon man in His likeness. Mind operates through unchanging laws, and those who understand these laws and apply them correctly demonstrate dominion. In the familiar "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468), Mary Baker Eddy says that "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Herein is the key to the understanding of dominion.

What we think determines what we are and our attitude toward the conditions in which we find ourselves, our state of happiness or unhappiness, abundance or lack, health or sickness, and so forth. We gain dominion over these things in proportion as we learn to control our thoughts, delineating upon our experience only that which is good and true. The complete overcoming of all error is not accomplished at once. To demonstrate Truth, even in a small degree, however, is to that extent to gain dominion over error. Moreover, the process is cumulative and progressive; each step in the right direction makes the next step easier.
