Recently, the Freiheit called Christian Science "gross superstition," and denied that it could heal sickness. It is commonly agreed that thoughts have an influence on the body; for instance, one says somebody is sick with anger, or another is revived by joy. There are medical doctors who say that sorrow, anger, fear, and hate handicap a healing, whereas peace of mind, courage, hope, and confidence accelerate physical healing.

In Christian Science we do not believe that spiritual truth and material medicine work together; the divine healing Principle is Spirit, God. And it cannot be denied that Christian Science has healed many thousands of people Somebody may say he does not believe in God, Spirit; he believes only in that to which his five physical senses testify. And yet he probably believes in freedom and justice, and wishes to see them displayed in the improvement of his own human conditions and possibly in those of other people too.

Freedom and justice are not material things, which could be produced or destroyed by physical or chemical means; they are spiritual qualities and must needs have a spiritual cause. Understanding the only cause or divine Principle brings to the consciousness of mankind the true sense of liberation, not only from political and social servitude, but also from bodily servitude or sickness caused by all kinds of untoward conditions. Christian Science shows that Principle is infinite and knows no limitation in the work of liberation. Men must be willing to admit this, and prove it. not by trusting in human personality, but by understanding the eternal divine Principle. The outwardly visible effect may be the physical healing of the individual seeker. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
