My investigation of Christian Science began shortly before the birth of my third child. I was deeply prejudiced against Christian Science, as I understood it, and against its Leader. Nevertheless, I decided to see whether I might receive some help from it. I had known of many wonderful healings in my husband's family, but thought I lacked the childlike faith and simplicity of those who had been healed. I wrote to a friend who was a Christian Scientist, frankly telling her of my antagonistic feeling and asking whether one so lacking in sympathy for this religion could receive help. Her prompt and loving reply held out such assurance that I asked her to begin treatment at once. To my great joy and amazement my physical condition began to improve from the start. I grew stronger, and was able to care for my home with greater freedom than I had ever known. Glasses were discarded, and many ills of long standing were healed. Needless to say, the birth of my baby was most harmonious. This seemed like a miracle to us all.

Since that time we have passed through many a severe testing time, and have depended entirely on Christian Science. The children have been healed of many of the contagious diseases, including scarlet fever and smallpox. The injuries received in an accident were beautifully healed with the help of a faithful practitioner. Our little girl, then aged six, fell backward in such a way that the spout of an oilcan entered the small of her back, requiring considerable force to pull it out. Fear of paralysis as well as of infection was great. In two weeks the child was well, and able to start school. At another time four of us were wonderfully protected when our automobile overturned. A practitioner was called, and I was in the hospital for only one day. My husband was healed of pneumonia, resulting from the accident.

As I advance in understanding I become more and more grateful for the unselfish and untiring labors of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in giving us a demonstrable religion, whereby we learn that God is both understandable and available.
