I am now fourteen years old, and I have been in Christian Science...

I am now fourteen years old, and I have been in Christian Science since the age of two. I am grateful that I have never known any other religion. Since then, I have never tasted medicine, and have been fortunate enough to attend a Christian Science Sunday School, as well as the Sunday and Wednesday evening services. During this time I have experienced several beautiful healings.

Once I injured one of my arms. The doctor to whom I was taken strapped it up, and gave instructions not to touch it or attempt to move it for a week at least. Help was given by a Christian Science practitioner. A few hours later, at my request, the bandages were removed, and the healing was found to be complete.

When I was five, I was sent home from school, suffering from ringworm on my head. The truth was immediately declared, and the next morning the bare patch was covered with new, downy hair. Because the school authorities required a medical certificate before I could return to school, I was taken to a doctor, who was unable to arrive at any conclusion because of the new hair. So I was sent to the hospital for a microscopic examination. While we were waiting for attention there, after a long silence my mother asked me what I was thinking about. I replied by quoting these words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 475): "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." I had learned this in Sunday school. While I was denying the error, my mother had been affirming that "man is spiritual and perfect" (ibid.). Needless to say, the microscopic examination could not reveal what did not exist, and I was allowed to return to school immediately.
