My gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for...

My gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me and mine is beyond words. I was led to study Christian Science by the healing of my mother, who had been told by the physician that an operation would be necessary. Shortly after this healing, I joined the Christian Science Sunday School and there gained a firm foundation in this wonderful truth. Later I became a member of a branch church, and have tried since then to build up my understanding of Christian Science by the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons, given in the Christian Science Quarterly.

When our two children were born, I can honestly say I had very little discomfort. No medicine nor anaesthetics of any kind were used. As it was lawful to have a physician, a practitioner and I worked to know that I would be led to choose the right one. After several months, one was engaged who was interested in Christian Science. He enjoyed talking about our religion with the Christian Science nurse I had. When the first baby was born he said he wished all mothers could have their children as easily as I had mine. With the other one, he was called in the morning and left saying he would not be needed until after sunset; instead, to his astonishment, the baby was born at noon. For the loving help received from the practitioner, on both these occasions, I am most grateful. These two children are now eight and nine years of age, and never a week passes without new proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science.

I remember one time talking with a friend who, in the course of our conversation, said that we need to understand the simplicity of Christian Science. She said, "We must all know and believe that God is Love." Some time later our little boy awoke one morning manifesting a cold, and, although the truth was declared all day, in the evening he had a very high fever. During the night he was quite restless, and it was necessary repeatedly to know God's omnipotence, denying any power apart from God. At last I recalled my friend's words, and knew then I was making a reality out of nothing, since after all God is Love, and is omnipresent, the only presence, and this boy was God's child, not mine. When I was willing to "loose him, and let him go," as Jesus said of Lazarus, I lost all sense of fear and responsibility. The child went to sleep, and we were not disturbed again. The next morning he was completely free.
