Beginning the Day Aright

[Written Especially for Young People]

Tom had been attending the Christian Science Sunday School for several years, but on the opening day of school he discovered that in his excitement he had forgotten to take with him several things necessary for his work, namely, a pencil, some paper, and a pen; and, as he explained to his mother that evening, the day had been decidedly unsatisfactory.

Tom's mother told him that our days are always unsatisfactory and disappointing when we fail to take with us the tools necessary for the day's work. She reminded him of his neglect in the past months to equip himself for the day by a careful study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. These Lessons, he was told, supply us with many beautiful truths which enable us to solve our problems throughout each day. By omitting this spiritual preparation in the morning we are not well equipped for our day's work.

And so, Tom read more and more of the Lesson each morning. He found that when he had thus fortified himself, his thoughts were more kind, his school lessons were more easily and more thoroughly learned, and his friends became more numerous. He suddenly discovered that he felt friendly toward two boys whom he had disliked, and that he and several former so-called enemies had become the best of friends.
