Climbing

Down in the valley, held by indecision,
Darkened by shadows—merely marking time—
We long for light to purify our vision,
And pray that strength be given us to climb.

Patiently struggling up the rugged mountain,
Rimming the edge of cliffs, beset with fear,
We find refreshment at the living fountain
That will sustain us if we persevere.

Throwing our fears away, we see them vanish;
Nearing the summit, darkness becomes light.
Our vision clearing, beams of Spirit banish
The looming obstacles that dimmed our sight.

Glorious views of life are now revealing
Our Father's loving tenderness. Secure
We turn from past uncertainty of feeling
To fix our faith on things that will endure.
