Arise

Is it at a tomb thou standest,
Stooping down and seeing there
Crumbling hopes and aspirations,
Shattered plans, ambitions fair?

Though unheeded, pointing upward
Are God's angels, here and now,
With a loving admonition,
Asking low, Why weepest thou?

Seekest thou a living message?
Turn thyself and lift thine eyes;
From the tomb of mortal planning
See Truth's mighty purpose rise—

Rising with a healing power,
Stilling sorrow, pain, and strife;
Pouring forth for thine acceptance
Proofs of rich, unending life;

Rising with a fuller splendor
Than the human view can trace;
Moving thee to say, with wonder,
Surely God is in this place!
