Matthew Arnold wisely wrote: "Resolve to be thyself; and know, that he who finds himself loses misery."

We all stand in need of a deeper appreciation of our own natures, which shall arouse within us a greater sincerity of purpose to develop our own talents. It is often the case that the brilliance of some other person's performance is so dazzling that thousands of others attempt to imitate it, and fail because their gifts do not equip them for such a career as that which they admire. At the same time, however, they are neglecting their own gifts—failing to be themselves—and thus are cultivating misery in their own lives, while doing comparatively little good for others. ...
