For many years I have been enjoying benefits from articles and testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel, but have not been giving in proportion to my receiving.
One instantaneous healing that stands out in my experience took place several years ago. I was mixing a very strong drilling compound, composed principally of lye and grease, which had been boiling twenty or thirty minutes and was about the consistency of whipping cream. While I was attempting to pour this liquid into a barrel, the bucket slipped and let the entire contents flow over my hand. I instantly prayer, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, realizing God's allness and man's relation to Him. As a result of this prayer there was no pain, and no blister on my hand, although for a short time its appearance was abnormal.
Some years later, while working at my present business of roofing, I had the experience of having approximately a half gallon of boiling hot asphalt spilled over my face and body, completely closing my lips and one eye, and partly closing the other eye. Realizing that Mrs. Eddy says on page 424 of Science and Health, "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind," I stopped work only long enough to get my mouth and eyes open. This was at two o'clock in the afternoon, and I worked the balance of the day, moved our equipment to another town that night, and put on another roof the next day before coming home, a distance of sixty miles. Although the healing this time was not instantaneous, I used no material remedies, suffered very little pain, and lost very little time from work. Quite a bit of skin came off my face and body, but this left no scar or mark whatsoever.
